We found each other in darkness and the moonlight set us free – Limited Edition Hand-Finished Screen Print Inspired by Night Energy and Connection

In We found each other in darkness and the moonlight set us free, captures the profound emotional charge of connection discovered in life’s quieter, darker moments. Set against a backdrop of nocturnal seascapes and glowing neons, the work explores how light, both literal and metaphorical, can emerge through shared experience.

Drawing on the visual language of nightlife, the piece is rich in atmosphere and energy. The sea becomes a vessel for luminous colour, abstracting the pulse of the night and the euphoria of unexpected moments of intimacy and recognition.

Technically, the work showcases Kingman’s signature fusion of traditional and urban techniques. Each piece begins with a uniquely spray-painted background, followed by a two-layer screen print, and is meticulously hand-finished. The halftones used to create the screen positives were themselves painted by hand, lending each edition a distinct sense of depth and texture. The result is a body of work where no two prints are ever the same—each one a standalone expression of craft and intent.

A compelling addition for collectors of contemporary editions, this release is limited to just 14 unique prints.

About the concept

Wish You Were Here is a series rooted in memory, connection, and the places that stay with us. The idea was sparked by a conversation with my mum while she was in intensive care — a quiet moment that reminded me how deeply we’re shaped by the spaces we hold dear. She spoke about the sea, its energy, and what it meant to her. That moment has stayed with me.

Although she’s no longer here, that conversation became the foundation for this series — a tribute not only to her but to the way we all anchor our emotions in place. These works explore how landscape, memory, and connection collide. Whether it's a coastline, a sunset, or a lyric that resonates, Wish You Were Here invites viewers to reflect on their own stories, and the places they return to, again and again.

Wish You Were Here" is a series that distils moments of connection, memory, and nostalgia into visual form.

Techniques used

Each piece features a uniquely applied background, layered screen printing, and meticulously hand-painted halftones. The halftones were painted by hand to create the screen positives, an intensive process that brings depth, texture, and a heightened sense of individuality to each work. No two prints are ever the same, with each standing as a distinct expression of craft and intent.
